I hesitate to write this email because I don’t want the perception to be that I want to make money off a tragedy. To be respectful I waited until clear signs of progress and recovery were known, and now we have it! Reports are that Damar Hamlin is awake, speaking and has made a neurologically intact recovery. This means that all of Damar’s brain functions have been preserved. My assumption is that he will make a full recovery beyond brain functions.
This was made possible by the amazing safety net that the NFL surrounds each game with. The foundation of that safety net is training. Training is key to replicating this amazing save. Every one of our athletes, students, coworkers, friends, and family deserve the chance that Damar was given. Please schedule a First Aid and CPR course for your organization. Consider purchasing an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). Check your first aid kits and emergency response equipment. Make sure that it is up to date, in working order and ready to deploy. Make sure that everyone in your facility knows where your emergency equipment is and that they have access to it. If you have questions or need suggestions on how to properly deploy or stock your emergency equipment, please reach out. Sports teams and organizations don’t assume that the hosts of away games have the necessary equipment. Have a conversation with your host colleagues to determine if they are equipped. If they are deficient consider bringing your team’s equipment so that your students have proper emergency coverage while away from home.
This event has shown the world that sudden cardiac arrest can strike the young and the old. It has demonstrated that preparation, equipment, and procedures can save a life. Please make sure your organization is prepared. Schedule a CPR and First aid class today. Consider purchasing an AED. A brand-new AED can be purchased for as little as $1,400.00. Refurbished AEDs sell for under $800.
To purchase an AED or schedule a class please contact me. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or want to simply have a conversation to review or optimize your organization’s readiness.
Let’s keep Damar Hamlin, his family and friends in our prayers and let’s honor him by preparing for the worst and hoping for the best.
